When the world feels like it’s closing in, go outside.
It’s a great big, massive Universe you’re a part of. Find a beautiful patch of this Earth and let your inner world expand.
It’s such a crazy feeling. It’s the moment you notice you’re feeling tense and constricted on the inside. It’s the day you feel the walls closing in. It’s the minute you step outside, start walking around, and realize the world around you is far bigger than a single person, town, country, continent, or planet – and that that’s amazing.
This past year I’ve spent more time outside than ever before. It’s been wonderful. I love Fall, and I’m usually so excited for it to start, but I have to admit – this year I’m really, really going to miss these warm days and perfect afternoons.
There’s something about being outside that reminds me that there are forces of nature growing and thriving without all the things so many humans believe make up a happy life.
Being outside helps me get out of my own head, away from all the thinking, and start feeling, really feeling what’s going on deep down.
Being outside reminds me that beyond the walls we find ourselves within most of the day – whether in our environments or walls that we put up within ourselves, there’s a vast sky above us that leads to a Universe bigger than any of us can truly imagine.
You can do so much. If you want to feel like you can do anything, go outside and surround yourself with plants and animals, water and trees. Take a page from the things around us that do what they do best without hesitation.
